How to Pray for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

  1. Encourage the participants to open their hearts fully to Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

  2. Tell them to ask Jesus to baptize them in the Holy Spirit and give them all the gifts of the Spirit

  3. Lay your hands upon them and pray for them. Ask Jesus to baptize them in the Holy Spirit. If you have the gift, pray in tongues and encourage the person to pray in tongues also. This is their own personal prayer language.

  4. Assure them that Jesus wants to baptize them in the Holy Spirit, but they must surrender to Him and give Him control. One way they do this by yielding their tongues to Him and letting the Spirit to use their voice to praise God.

  5. Pray with expectant faith, expecting God to do what He has promised to do. Thank Him and praise Him.

  6. Different people will have different experiences. Some may feel a lot (tears, joy, peace, love) others may not feel anything, the Life in the Spirit is NOT based on feelings. If a person has truly turned to the Lord and humbly asked Him to baptize them in the Holy Spirit, He will do it.

  7. Some people may feel weakness in their legs and limbs and experience what is called "resting in the Spirit. This is a beautiful healing experience and you should encourage the participants to surrender to the Holy Spirit. Someone should be ready to catch them.

  8. The Spirit may give you a word of knowledge, a Scripture, or vision while you are praying for a person. Share it with them even if it makes no sense to you. God will use it.

  9. When you have finished praying, ask the person to return to their seat and continue to pray and praise God and thank Him; also pray for others who are being prayed for.
